Art Therapy for Trauma

Art therapy can be a particularly effective approach when dealing with trauma as it allows patients to access parts of the mind that are difficult to verbalise, either because they are too painful for the client to express, or too abstract to be ably put into words.

The act of art making, or creativity in general, accesses the pre- or non-verbal sections of our brain, allowing us to express thoughts and feelings that we may otherwise be unable to communicate.

As an experienced Art Psychotherapist, I have a range of art therapy techniques and approaches that can help patients give shape to, and come to better understand their traumatic experiences.

These experiences can range from single-instance Traumatic episodes, to a series of relational traumas suffered throughout the lifespan. In either case, art therapy can be used as a creative, effective means of accessing the complicated thoughts and feelings caused by trauma.

If you are interested to know more about how art therapy can be used to address trauma, please feel free to get in touch.
